Golf Cart Overhaul: Farm Junk to Lithium Super Cart. It's FAST!

Golf cart overhaul to lithium super cart! We’ve had an old 2009 EZGO RXV golf cart at the farm that’s been broken down for years and just sitting in the woods. We really didn’t know what to do with it, so I decided to take it on as a project and turn it into something cool. I knew I wanted something fast, lowered, and convertible looking (with no top and a chopped down windshield). You don't see many lowered golf carts but I wanted something with a unique look that you don't often see. I didn't find that lowering the golf cart was too hard and I explain how I accomplished this in the video.
The first thing I did was perform a lithium battery conversion by dumping the heavy lead acid batteries and upgrading to lithium golf cart batteries. I chose a 48v RoyPow lithium battery for this cart because of their high quality and high output specifications for lithium battery conversions. I believe ROYPOW make some of the best golf cart batteries out there. After my top speed test, I was convinced! The ROWPOW lithium battery paired with a 600amp Navitas controller seemed like a perfect combo for high performance. In this video I show the steps on how-to install the battery with the different components such as resistor, on/off remote button, battery meter, and battery charger. If you are ever in the market for a ROYPOW Lithium Battery keep in mind that they only sell to dealers. You can find your closest dealer here: www.roypowtech.com/dealer-locator/
With the advent of lithium batteries, golf carts have undergone a remarkable transformation, ushering in a new era of efficiency, reliability, and longevity. One of the most notable advantages of lithium batteries lies in their lightweight and compact design. Unlike their traditional lead-acid counterparts, lithium batteries shed excess bulk without compromising power. This reduction in weight translates to improved cart performance and efficiency.
Yet, it's not just about shedding pounds-it's about longevity and durability. Lithium batteries boast a longer lifespan compared to lead-acid batteries, standing resilient against the rigors of repeated charging cycles. Their inherent durability ensures consistent performance over time, minimizing the need for frequent replacements and reducing maintenance costs for owners.
Moreover, the performance benefits of lithium batteries extend beyond swift recharges. With their ability to deliver consistent power throughout the entire charge cycle, lithium-powered golf carts offer smooth acceleration and reliable operation across varying terrains. Whether tackling uphill climbs or cruising along fairways, owners can trust in the unwavering performance of their lithium-powered steeds.
Beyond performance, lithium batteries offer a respite from the burdens of maintenance. Unlike their lead-acid counterparts, which demand regular watering and upkeep, lithium batteries require minimal maintenance, freeing up valuable time and resources for owners.
In summary, the benefits of lithium batteries for golf carts are clear: lighter weight, extended lifespan, faster charging, enhanced performance, reduced maintenance, and durability.
I hope you enjoyed watching the overhaul of this old farm golf cart. Thank you for watching!

    I purchased this system at a Woodworking Show, in the early 1980s. I purchased a newer wheel set about 1993. It was no better than the 1st. I've had the systems mounted on two different speed grinder motors. I used it for TEN YEARS! IT IS NOT the best sharpening system. The learning curve is utterly discouraging for most purchasers. YES, you can make a really sharp knife. Yes you can totally ruin a nice knife too. I for one, moved on. I have MULTIPLE sharpening systems that are WAY MORE REPEATABLE and easily achieve just as sharp results. I still have the kit, which are setting unused in the bottom drawer of my tool box. I've loaned it to several friends, The ALL were discouraged, not that they couldn't get repeatable results! THIS SYSTEM is a bad recommendation for the average home sharpener. IF it's so darn good, why don't culinary professionals have one in every kitchen. Answer: it NOT repeatable for the average user. AND, YES, I trued my wheels to the Nth degree. Made little difference in results. I'm at least 30 years older than you, and have MUCH more experience. So, believe me or not.... YOU SHOULDN'T have to monkey around to get good repeatable results...

      I have absolutely no trouble getting repeatable razor sharp knives in seconds. Are they a perfect angle, no, but if I was looking for perfect I would use a different setup and there are many good ones out there. I use this sharpener every single day in my shop for razor blades, filet knives, box cutters, kitchen knives, pocket knives, scrapers, tools, drill bits, you name it. I can’t find another sharpener as quick and effective as this one for what I do on a daily basis. I get that many beginners will have a hard time mastering and you can ruin good blades if not careful. I just got a new TSPROF sharpener which should give a repeatable edge but it is a much slower process. What has been your favorite sharpener so far? Thanks for sharing.👍

    Great job. Here in Australia we have a woven mesh wire similar to chicken wire, but made from 2mm (1/12”) wire. Here it’s called Wallaby Wire, and comes in widths from 30cm to 2m (1 to 6’). You could overlay it on your cattle panels, if something similar is available in USA. It would keep all the bastards in the trap. Cheers from Tasmania

    I can’t decide between this and the woksharp Ken onion. Does this work on hard super steels?

    • @TheHandyHunter
      @TheHandyHunter 16 днів тому

      Yes it does. Just FYI, I have both and now only use the paper wheels. Nothing wrong with the Ken Onion, it’s just the paper wheels are much faster.

    • @llamawizard
      @llamawizard 16 днів тому

      @@TheHandyHunter Thanks! I do like not having to change out belts. But I guess the advantage of the Ken onion is the portability. Prolly easier to get a convex edge on the Ken onion too, as in it’s probably impossible on the MDF wheels. These are just my suspicions as I try to decide what system to get besides my stones.

    • @TheHandyHunter
      @TheHandyHunter 16 днів тому

      Yeah, I know the concave edges on the wheels are not perfect but I’ve just come to accept it. I’m usually in a hurry to sharpen something, like my fishing filet knives, and they’ll be razor sharp in seconds…and Im gone. Have you looked at the Tormec setups? Little pricey but heard good things.

    • @llamawizard
      @llamawizard 16 днів тому

      @@TheHandyHunter I’ve looked at it, but the width of the stones steer me away as I’m fearful they would be difficult to impossible to sharpen my recurve blades. I’d just assume bet a 1x belt or the paper wheels.

    I'm not sure what I did wrong. I had an area cleared in Southern West Virginia. I limed it real good. Put down black hawk arrow leaf clover in the Spring and it came up almost immediately and but just stopped growing. It's June now and it's only 6 inches tall. Any help would be much appreciated.

    • @TheHandyHunter
      @TheHandyHunter 17 днів тому

      I haven’t used Blackhawk so Im not sure how tall it gets. Is it starting to get the seed heads on it yet? I always plant in September with my fall mix and it kicks in in the Spring. Did you innoculate the seed with proper bacteria? If you don’t innoculate properly it will come up but have stunted growth.

    Here in Southwest Missouri- I'm prepping some ground for a plot. Moving forward, I'm thinking I'll plant BWheat mid-June, then mow & rake it mid-August. At that point, my plan is to broadcast and aerate oats, ladino clover, and cereal rye into what I'm hoping becomes a real "honey-hole". I would appreciate your thoughts regarding my plan!!!

    If you place heavy duty wire mesh fencing on the inside of the cattle panels it would prevent losses. We use a mesh here in Tasmania called wallaby wire (to fence out wallabies and kangaroos) that is a woven wire similar to chicken wire, but is made from 3mm (1/8”) wire with holes around 30mm (1 1/4” across) and comes in various heights to 2m (6’) high. It would need to be clipped onto your solid panels at each post, but is incredibly strong, and NOTHING will get out!

      Hey there! You can’t go wrong with either battery. The RoyPow won’t fit in my Club Car due to the frame size. I had to use the BigBattery #2/24v batteries to get them to fit. I like all the extras with the RowPow like the remote monitor and on/off switch. It’s also built like a tank. Really comes down to what your frame will allow to fit. I have a discount code at BigBattery if you go that route. You’ll need to find a dealer for the RowPow but they are a solid battery! Good luck!

      I plant the arrowleaf in with my fall mix around mid September every year. Be careful not to plant it too deep. I usually mix it with lime and spread it after I spread my grains. I call it “top dressing”. I then cover it real lightly. It won’t come up heavy until the spring but it saves you from having to replant cowpeas etc. Plant one time and last all year!! Good luck!!

Way quicker than these complicated jigs and fixtures and clamps with rods and six levels of stones. Or whetstones. I can’t believe the time and energy people put in to sharpening. How would you recommend I proceed when buying a golf course cart and turn it into a hunting cart. Don't care about speed. I need hill climbing ability.

      Buy an old club car and install an AMD Torque Beast motor with a 48v 500amp DC controller. Get a good lithium battery and you’ll be climbing hills and pulling trailer’s with ease. Have fun!!

      What would be an estimate/guesstimate of cost if I do just the items you've recommended ?

    • @TheHandyHunter
      @TheHandyHunter 3 місяці тому

      Give yourself a $1k for the motor, $800 for controller, and 2-3k for lithium battery. Guesstimate around 5k. Hope that helps!

    Can you use it to test water also?

      Since it is made for solids I would say no. They make specific ones for liquid too. Good luck!

      @@TheHandyHunter the neighbors across the street has an armadillo that has been digging holes in their back yard and now we see the armadillo has decided to have two dens, one across the street and one on our side of street in between my neighbor house and mine in the front yard. It has dug huge domes to look for grubs in my flower beds and mulch walk way, and then dug a den on my neighbors side between houses in the front yard under one of their low growing bushes. So we will try to catch it by placing in front of hole on our side of road. It that doesn’t work we will lend the cage to the neighbor across the street to catch it in their yard. But we hope to catch it soon and release somewhere in a green belt or woods.

      @JennifertxCarnivore you’ll get him…they aren’t too smart so be patient and they’ll walk right into the trap. Good luck!

      @@TheHandyHunter thank you! And thank you again for this video. Have you ever had to catch a skunk? That might be the next one. We have some acres and can smell him. We may catch and release him somewhere else. Wish they didn’t spray. Haha 😂

      Never caught a skunk but I’ve been sprayed by two while farming. You don’t want to get sprayed. It made me sick and had to throw away all my clothes including boots…you can’t get the smell off! Be careful!
